U Value (Thermal Retention)

The TF30 glass block was originally designed as fire glass block, however due to the process of manufacture another characteristic is U value properties. This is created by the TF30 having four layers of glass & two 35mm cavities.

The newly released TF range of glass blocks, exclusively from Glass Block Technology, produced under licence from La Rochere is the only glass block product in the world to achieve a U value of lower than 2 W/m² °C. Standard range 190x190x80 glass blocks achieve 2.9W/m² °C.

A double skin with a cavity between can achieve less, but is very awkward to construct due to mortar squeeze dropping in to the cavity between the glass block walls. Also it can prove expensive to construct because of the working restrictions and double labour costs.

The block has been assessed by the CEBTP in France, who work closely with La Rochere (manufacturer of the TF Range, who are solely represented by Glass Block Technology Ltd in the UK & Eire). The test data document number is B232.3.047, available upon request from Glass Block Technology Ltd.

Specifying the product has never been so straight forward; Glass Block Technology has joined forces with www.fastrackcad.com that allows architects or specifiers to copy & paste plans & connection details for TF range (30 or 60) in auto cad format.

Note: if specifying for U value purpose only, 50mm mortar border surround is not a requirement.
